Asoka halwa | Moong Daal halwa



 
Moong Dal is my favorite. I like to prepare sambar with Moong Dal or sometimes mix of Moon Dal and Toor Dal. When I heard the nameAsoka Halwa I thought something different. Then when I checked for recipe for the halwa I liked very much without any idea about the taste just because the main element is Moon Dal :) I prepared this for my Amma and she liked it very much.
Ingredients:
Moong Daal – 1 cup

Sugar – 1 to 1.5 cup (adjust to your taste)

Food Color - a small pinch

Cashew nuts – few

Wheat flour – 1/2 cup 

Preparation:

1.      Take wide mouth pan and dry roast moong daal till nice aroma comes
2.      Take the moong dal to pressure cooker and add water till the dals are soaked and pressure cook the
3.      Once it cools down grind it to fine paste using mixer without adding water.
4.      Heat a wide mouth pan and add ghee and fry the cashews till they turn brown and keep aside.
5.      In the same pan with ghee add the Wheat flour and fry till nice aroma comes. No need to fry till th
6.      Keep the fried wheat flour aside.
7.      In the same pan boil 1 cup Sugar with 1/2 cup water for sugar syrup. Boil the syrup till it reaches
8.      Add the wheat flour to the syrup and keep stirring.
9.      Once it becomes thick add the moong paste and keep stirring again
10.  Add ghee if you feel the halwa is sticking to the pan. Make sure the flame is in medium at this point
11.  Keep Stirring... Keep Stirring... Keep Stirring.... :)
12.  Add ghee in regular intervals and keep stirring at least for 20 minutes.
13.  At the end add the remaining ghee and cook for 1 minute and switch off the stove
14.  Now delicious Moong daal halwa is ready..!!

Note: Keep the halwa in an air tight container. Reheat to melt the ghee before serving.
