Dal fry - Dal Tadka

                        

Dal fry is another comfort recipe you can make in jiffy. A tasty and healthy food liked by everyone. This goes well with hot steamed rice, pulao, jeera rice, pulkha,.. You can cook this whenever you are running out of time.
Let us see the how to prepare this simple yet delicious dal fry.

Ingredients:
Thuvaram Parupu / Toor Dal – 1 cup
Tomato – 2 big sized
Castor oil – 1/4 tsp
Onion – 1 big size
Green chilies – 2
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Coriander leaves – handful/ 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Jeera – 1 tsp
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 4 to 5 cloves
Asafetida – a pinch
Salt as needed
Oil – 1 tsp
Method:
Wash toor dal twice and take it in a pressure cooker. Chop tomatoes and add to the dal. Add ¼ tsp castor oil and a sprig of curry leaves. Cook it for 2 whistles.
Once the pressure released, take a kadhai and add a tsp of oil
Throw in mustard seeds. When it splutters, add jeera, chopped onion, green chilies and curry leaves.


Once the onion changes to golden, then add in asafetida, turmeric powder, chili powder, and coriander powder and garam masala. Saute for few seconds.


Now add the cooked dal, required salt and mix well.
Cover it and cook in medium flame for 10 mins.

Add a handful of coriander leaves and transfer to serving bowl.
Delicious dal fry is ready to serve. Enjoy!



Note:
You can mix Toor Dal with Channa dal, Masoor Dal or Moong dal in equal ratio and follow the same steps.
